Too
often, installers fail to appreciate the importance of maintaining the
polarity of the speakers in distributed sound systems. Consequently,
the quality of both voice and music reproduction may be significantly
degraded.
In a good
overhead distribution pattern, the result is similar to mispolarized
speakers in a multi speaker enclosure.
Installing
sound systems is hard work, as anyone who has pulled wires and mounted
speakers will attest. By contrast, it is relatively easy to make
sure that the same color coding is used when connecting speakers. It
does not make any difference which wire is used as the ground or the
signal line as long as the same wire is consistently connected to the same
color at each transformer or speaker.
At J.W
Davis & Company, we carefully check out speakers to assure consistent
polarity. in addition, the line transformers are checked for
polarity to be sure that the windings are polarized properly.
Finally, a visual check of the wiring is made when a sweep test is
performed on the final speaker assembly. The result is "quality
you can hear."
